Will a chemical peel help my skin?
A chemical peel is a procedure that rejuvenates skin. Most individuals find benefit from a chemical peel. In almost all cases, patients will notice an improved vitality of skin.
What skin conditions can a chemical peel improve?
Chemical peels are typically performed on the face, neck, chest and hands. They can also be performed on the arms and legs. Peels are used to improve a wide variety of skin conditions including:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Uneven pigmentation
- Shallow acne scars
- Sun-damaged skin
- Age spots
- Freckling
What is chemical peel skin rejuvenation?
Chemical peels are used to create an even and controlled shedding of damaged skin cells. This helps to restore skin to a more youthful appearance.
There are various types of chemical peels; your Schenden’s Spa aesthetician will explain what type of peel is best for you. Depending on your skin type and the desired results, a superficial or medium chemical peel, such as Glycolic, Salicylic or Jessner may be recommended. Solutions are applied to the skin to remove dead skin cells and stimulate the production of new skin cells. Chemical peels tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; however, they have limits to what they can do. They are not a substitute for a facelift since peels cannot eliminate excessive or lax skin.
How long does it take to have a chemical peel?
About thirty minutes in total, it has often been referred to as "the lunch time peel".
Is a chemical peel painful?
No. There is a mild degree of "tingling" or a slightly itchy sensation while the glycolic acid is in contact with the skin. Upon neutralizing the peel, the skin feels fresh and smooth without discomfort.
How many chemical peels should I have and how often is it recommended?
Many individuals find that a peel performed every four to six weeks gives optimal results. Glycolic acid peels complement the regular use of other products such as glycolic acid containing preparations that can be used on a regular basis at home. The short term exposure of a higher concentration of glycolic acid on a periodic basis helps maintain skin health and appearance.
Will a chemical peel remove deep lines or wrinkles?
Peels will not remove deep lines. Laser resurfacing is recommended in most cases where wrinkles are advanced. However, a peel will often improve the tone, texture, smoothness and appearance of skin. |
